Adult
orthodontics: Its NOT too late!
Dr. Sarah Jovanovski, with Jovan
Orthodontics, in Round Rock Texas, sees many adult patients, some well into
their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and above, that wish to finally get the smile that they
deserve. It’s never to late to get what you deserve!
Although you may have been born with straight teeth, or had
braces as a teenager, your teeth are most likely moving. In fact, a recent
study shows that our skeletons keep growing, and moving, well into our
90s. Genetics, decay, clenching/grinding,
and tooth loss can all cause a less-than-ideal smile.
“More adults are embracing the idea of orthodontics because who
doesn’t’ want beautiful straight teeth?" says Dr. Sarah Jovanovski, with
Jovan Orthodontics in
Round Rock Texas. So, why wouldn’t you? Check out www.jovanorhto.com for more information on how
how to stop teeth from shifting.
What experts are saying: personal advice on shifting teeth
Any pressure on your teeth other than chewing can cause
movement. The tongue is the strongest, and largest, muscle in the mouth. If you
have the tendency to chew objects during the day (parafunction), that are not
edible, you could be producing extra forces on the teeth that are not expected.
Clenching and grinding also can cause tooth wear and position change,” says
Round Rock, Orthodontist Specialist,SarahJovanovski.
“If your lower front teeth have started to shift, you will need to do
something to counteract the bad effects, like a retainer, braces, or
Invisalign, to straighten them back to normal.”
What’s the bottom line:
Shifting of the teeth can begin as soon as your 20s, due to
subtle skeletal growth, which affects tooth alignment. It's natural for the
teeth to gradually shift, even if you had braces as a teenager. See Dr. Sarah
to show you how you can maintain a smile that you are proud of, for a long
time!
